Responsibilities

SUMMARY:  Responsible for gathering and analyzing healthcare data from multiple sources (e.g. healthcare processing, health benefit processing, clinical operations, and patient outcomes) to extract trends and business insights.  Responsible for building models and analyzing data to determine trends and patterns.  Responsible for presenting and explaining information and suggesting improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to, the following:

·       Understand health care operations and systems

·       Pull and integrate data from disparate sources (e.g. cost and claims or clinical data)

·       Evaluate and preprocess raw information

·       Delve into data to discover discrepancies and patterns

·       Build models that capture a wide range of health care operations

·       Present and explain information in an accessible way (e.g. health care cost trend reports)

·       Suggest ways to both increase healthcare quality and reduce costs

·       Collaborate with management and internal teams to implement and evaluate improvements

·       Perform special projects assigned to this position and actively lead and/or participate in workgroups as required

·       Works with IT, internal and external business stakeholders in requirements gathering efforts

·       Make independent decisions and draw conclusions from error trends identified

·       Write reports and business correspondences

·       Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, with intermediate to advanced Excel experience

·       Working knowledge of Medical Analytic Software and other pertinent software programs

·       Interpret and manipulate data in system-generated reports

·       Production, quality assurance review, and operations update of reports out of Medical Analytic Software and all available data systems

·       Participation in required testing of  Data Analytic System(s) and upgrade to existing core systems

·       May assist in troubleshooting efforts to validate data exchanges between reporting parties

·       Interprets historical, current, and projected data to identify problems, causes, and areas for which procedural or system changes are indicated

·       Reviews existing reports, identifies alternatives, and makes recommendations

·       Research, retrieve, design, and deliver organized analytics and reporting of medical, dental, vision and pharmaceutical data (descriptive and outcomes data)

·       Analyze benchmarking data, reports, processes, and measurements for key performance indicators

·       Evaluate and prioritize data changes and/or enhancements

·       Independently interpret data, facts, and/or trends

·       Perform Ad Hoc analysis

·       Develop innovative approaches to achieve deliverables

·       Working knowledge of all medical coding (CPT, HCPCS, ICD).

  • Protects the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and records that TML IEBP creates, receives, maintains or transmits by complying with TML IEBP policies and procedures, including policies and procedures on physical, administrative and technical safeguards.
  • Physical safeguards are physical measures, policies and procedures that protect TML IEBP’s buildings, equipment and information systems from natural and environmental hazards and from unauthorized intrusion.
  •  Administrative safeguards are administrative actions, policies and procedures that: (1) manage TML IEBP’s selection, development, implementation and maintenance of measures that protect TML IEBP’S information and records; and (2) manage the conduct of TML IEBP employees in protecting the privacy and security of TML IEBP’s information and records.
  • Technical safeguards are the technology and policies and procedures for its use that protect electronic information and records and that control access to electronic information and records.


Qualifications / Skills Required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

·                 Proven experience as a Healthcare Data Analyst

·                 Experience in data analysis and visualization methods

·                 Understanding of healthcare procedures

·                 Knowledge of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) frameworks preferred

·                 Basic understanding of SQL and analysis tools (e.g. SAS) preferred

·                 Knowledge of Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and data management systems preferred

·                 Strong analytical and communication skills

·                 Outstanding organizational and problem-solving aptitude

·                 Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and time management skills

·                 Strong research skills including gathering and analyzing data from multiple sources

·                 Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through

·                 Intermediate or advanced proficiency with MS Excel

·                 Working knowledge  of  UM/UR/Population Health  management reporting products,  Claims  Payment  Systems,  and  Medical Analytic Software preferred

·                 Ability to make independent decisions and draw conclusions from error trends identified

·                 Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

·                 Ability to write reports and business correspondence 

·                 Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from members of the Management Team

·                 Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs

·                 Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

·                 Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

·                 Ability to work independently and within a team environment

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

·                 Bachelor’s Degree required (Business, Healthcare, Statistics, or related field); 6+ years of direct comparable work experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

·                 1+ year experience in a healthcare data analysis role

·                 Intermediate or advanced proficiency with MS Excel

·                 2+ years of healthcare experience

·                 Strong project management skills required; must be very organized and detail oriented

·                 Strong written and oral communication skills required; must be able to interact with all levels within an organization

·                 Ability to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on occasion

·                 Ability to sit for extended periods of time to read, write or use keyboard

·                 Ability to repetitively enter data on keyboard and review information on CRT screen

·                 Ability to speak/hear clearly to communicate by phone or in person

Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
